Traditional Uses of Kratom Kratom or Mitragyna speciosa is an evergreen tropical tree that grows in several countries in Southeast Asia: Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and Myanmar. For hundreds of years, locals have used it as a mild stimulant, pain reliever and a way to get rid of opioid addiction.
Tea made from kratom leaves helped farmers and hard workers cope with fatigue and pain. And for those looking to quit opium or other opioid drugs, kratom has become one way to reduce addiction to addictive substances.
A group of researchers attempted to answer some of the most important questions about this plant in an article published May 16, 2019 in the International Journal of Drug Policy. In short, they have seen conflicting results. According to unofficial reports, kratom is effective in reducing opioid dependence, but “its effects have not been studied in controlled clinical trials in accordance with the requirements of regulatory authorities (eg FDA) to draw conclusions about the safety and efficacy of the drug for the treatment of [opioid use disorders ] or other indications ".
Despite the lack of large-scale studies, scientists cite several small scientific papers that suggest kratom as an effective treatment for opioid use disorders. For example, a small study in 2009 among Malaysians found that regular consumption of kratom helped reduce withdrawal symptoms from other drugs.
As the authors of the study note, several factors forced patients suffering from chronic pain to seek alternatives to traditional methods. One such factor is the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) opioid prescribing guidelines that urge physicians to limit opioid prescribing for the long term. This approach, experts recognized, negatively affected the well-being of patients who were denied access to opioid prescriptions.
Inverse informal reports that some patients who found unacceptable side effects of conventional opioids also switched to kratom. In a new study published in the International Journal of Drug Policy, experts come to a controversial conclusion about the pain relieving properties of kratom The substance has not been approved for this use in accordance with accepted medical procedures.

Currently in the vast majority of the surrounding world, Kratom can be freely purchased, but this can change dramatically at any time. The recent rise in popularity of Kratom has unexpectedly met with serious antagonism from various often government agencies, and several local authorities have ordered its sale and maximum use. This immediately sparked the interest of biomedical researchers around the outside world. Dr. Boyer, in particular a medical toxicologist in the Department of Toxicology, became seriously interested in scientific research after it was revealed that more than 40 dispossessed millions of real Americans obey unquestioningly from Kratom, which immediately caused a surge of desire for Kratom powder. While the free sale of kratom is legal in the vast majority of democracies, it isn't permitted in any way in southern Australia, Burma, Denmark, Germany, Israel, Lithuania, Malaysia, Myanmar, Poland, Romania, Russia, South Korea, and Thailand.
